The course provides students with basic knowledge of social communication thinking and basic communication skills in social career activities. Vietnamese and practice is the course designed to provide learners basic knowledge about spelling, word use, sentence formation, and questioning in verb and non-verbal communication. The course provides students with knowledge of phonetics and international phonetic symbols: pronunciation of vowels, diphthongs, and consonants. In addition, students can practice stressing syllables and pronouncing the correct intonation of the sentence. Students can self-check their pronunciation and write their pronunciation to be able to listen and pronounce correctly. The course also helps students identify the differences between sounds in English and Vietnamese. On this basis, students can correct errors when they pronounce and know how to use the dictionary with international phonetic transcription. Through this course, students will feel more confident when listening, speaking English.

Introduction to English Studies is one of the first subjects that students need to complete in the curriculum. This course introduces the major and answers the question: What will we do and learn in the curriculum? In addition to Listening-Speaking-Reading-Writing language skills, Introduction to English Studies describes different subjects such as English-American culture, Linguistics, Language history, English-American culture and Education etc. and provides soft skills: Critical thinking, Presentation, Teamwork, etc. Ways of defining text, literature, and text analysis, differences between disciplines, English research orientations, effective academic research methods, current strategies for finding and efficient use of resources and features of science and technology applied to this field of study. Introduction English Studies will provide a context for English courses at the time of globalization, helping students choose the disciplines from Teaching Methods, Business English to English-Translation and Interpretation. The course aims to help students to catch the main ideas in the listening text, take the words and phrases about causes and effects or definitions of special terms; as well as the keywords to predict the main points at Elementary level. Besides, students have opportunities to revise important grammatical points, enhance vocabulary used in special fields and seminar, and practice pronunciation about phonetics to improve their listening skills.
 

073476 Communication in English – Elementary [02 credits]

The course aims to help students to self-correct their pronunciation including stressed syllables and intonation through phonetic exercises. More importantly, after finishing this course, students will have a reflection of asking and answering in daily topics and real situations as well as express their own interests, exchange information, know how to send invitations, and know how to accept and politely decline an invitation. Students also have opportunities to use their learned knowledge to deal with given tasks, scenarios and act in plays in class.

 

070010 Basic principles of Marxism- Leninism [05 credits]

The course introduces Marxism and Leninism and some general issues. Students are provided basic contents of worldview and methodology of Marxism and Leninism. The course also presents contents focusing on economic theory as well as tthe theory about socialism and prospects of Marxism- Leninism on the mode of capitalist production. After the course, students are able to understand, proceed, apply, and analyze the system of practical and scientific knowledge according to the perspectives of science.

Basic legislation provides an overview of the law and the legal system. This course covers the Constitution, court system attorney-client relationship, administrative law, crimes, torts, contract law, family law, owning and operating motor vehicles, renters and landlords, home ownership, employee and employer rights and duties, wills, trusts and probate laws and the Declaration of Independence. The students will develop the knowledge and skills in its social context, examining how the law responds to different interests and emerging issues in a changing society.

The course provides students with basic skills for effective reading such as scanning, skimming, reading for gist, reading for specific ideas, etc. The course includes a variety of passages related to education, medicine, science, technology, arts, life, entertainment, etc. Besides, each unit is designed with reinforced exercises which are very useful for their learning outcome. After the course, students are able to predict new words through contexts, and summarize main ideas.

The course provides students with general knowledge in forming sentence patterns, and how a paragraph should be. Within the course, students are required to practice descriptive paragraph. Besides, they also have chances to practice elementary level of email writing tasks. Moreover, students learn how to brainstorm, how to develop their ideas and other effective writing skills.

The course focuses on basic grammar points: passive sentences, conditional sentences, passive voice... The lessons in the syllabus are organized by topic, including theoretical and practical exercises that help students understand and apply it to speak and write English correctly.

The course aims to equip students with awareness: The role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the process of building and protecting the country experienced during the Vietnam revolutionary leadership over time. It also offers panoramic innovation and critical awareness of Party policy since 1986 through the party congresses. The experience lesson is the basis for the consolidation of patriotic education, ethnic pride and sense of responsibility of the learner in building confidence in the leadership of the party.

The course aims to help students to develop listening skills about more specific information with signal words. On the other hand, students are revised a number of fundamental grammatical points, enhance vocabulary used in special fields and seminar, and practice pronunciation about phonetics to improve their listening skills.
 

073705 Communication in English – Pre-intermediate [02 credits]

The course aims to continue to help students improve their pronunciation, especially with minimal pairs and ending sounds. Students have opportunities to practice more about intonation in narratives, questions, and linking sounds between vowels and consonants. Besides, after completing this course, students will know how to introduce, give and respond to suggestions, as well as how to argue, compare the differences and similarities among things. They can also practice using target language through activities in class.

This course introduces the object, methodology and the meaning of studying Ho Chi Minh's Ideology. It covers the content of the basics, the process of formation and to develop Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology. The course aims to provide students general knowledge about academic writing. Students will have chances to experience familiar or even in-depth topics in the field of this type of writing. The course aims to help students to develop their speaking skills gradually through a series of interesting topics about daily life, culture, society and environment …etc. the dialogues will provide students with real examples and knowledge to communicate well. Chinese
The module consists of 7 lessons (from lesson 1 to lesson 7) in the speaking textbook 1 in Chinese (汉语口语速成) by Ma Tien Phi – a chief editor. Discourse Analysis’ is characterized by many linguists as the analysis of language above the level of the sentence. The term, however, is used by researchers in many other fields which have influenced discourse analytic research in applied linguistics. This course offers an overview of several of the major theoretical and methodological frameworks for doing discourse analysis in applied linguistics. With the presentation and discussion of each approach, students will have the opportunity to try out different methods for the analysis of discourse using the different theoretical perspectives and methodologies. In doing such analyses of written and spoken language, you will try to make arguments for particular interpretations of the language you analyze using the appropriate terminology and methods to allow the data to support your argument.

This module will introduce the students to the study of meaning at the levels of semantics and pragmatics. The discussed topics will range from the study of word meaning to the study of sentence meaning and utterance (contextualized) meaning. The module will introduce significant notions and theories for the field of semantics and pragmatics, such as theories of concepts, Truth Conditions, the Gricean theory of conversational implicatures, Speech Act theory, and Politeness theory. The students will have the opportunity to reflect upon real data and analyse the processes of conveying and understanding the meaning at the semantics/pragmatics interface.

The course aims to help students to realize the speaker’s attitude due to his/her intonation, exaggerative language in different contexts and fulfill the given tasks at advanced level. Students can guess and realize the main points thanks to notes to summarize the whole text; distinguish the facts and concepts, arguments and criticisms, realize the pros and cons of an argument. Besides, this level helps students to develop the possibility of predicting results or give a conclusion for a specific issue.

The course aims to help students to develop their speaking skills gradually through a variety of interesting topics about seminars, discussions, and argument about research projects. In addition, after completing this course, students can conduct surveys and discuss survey results, evaluate the hypotheses, make a presentation about a person with great influence. In addition, students will have opportunities to use language through practical activities in the classroom under the instructions and supervision of the lecturer. At the end of the course, students can listen and communicate at an advanced level.

The course introduces students to the principles of intensive communication so that they are able to apply these principles to communication in life, work and study. Specifically, students can apply the principles effectively to write E-mail, communicate, inform, science reports, business documents sent to customers. Students will also be trained with in-depth job application writing and job interviewing skills. While learning the skills of writing e-mail, writing reports, students will be assigned to do group work (in class or at home) in order to understand how to work and communicate effectively in groups.
 

070310 Comparative contrastive linguistics [02 credits]

The course deals with the comparative study of language with respect to language typology (and language universals), with contrastive linguistics. The methodological aspects and the areas of research will be illustrated with examples from English and Vietnamese. Modern aspects of contrastive linguistics will be especially highlighted. 
The course raises issues related to cross-cultural interaction between English and Vietnamese. In addition, it gives students an idea about how the errors of second language learners can be predicted and solved. It explains properties of linguistic patterns shared across English and Vietnamese, and in what general ways they differ. This will cover the sound system of languages, morphology, grammar, syntax and semantics. The course will also provide students with the opportunity to investigate cross cultural research in different disciplines of linguistics and from two languages.

The course provides students with basic knowledge of administration such as: the nature and science of administration, the development of administration science theories, environmental factors affecting governance, making decision, planning and organizing in administration, human resource management in the global economy, leadership and behavior of leadership, motivation and behavior among individuals, group, administration in the global economy, supervision and control in administration.

072487 Morphology-syntax [02 credits]

Morphology deals with the internal structure of words and their meaningful parts. Syntax is concerned with sentence structure - how words are combined together to form phrases, phrases combined together to form larger phrases, clauses and sentences, and how clauses are combined together to form complex sentences. Together, morphology and syntax comprise the core of the grammar of a language. Since grammar is no longer a major focus in schools, most students have little understanding of even the most basic notions such as being able to identify parts of speech or understanding how large constructions are composed out of smaller units. Being able to identify constituents and agreement constraints will help students to improve and correct their academic writing. The course will be practical in focus and will teach students essential skills for the linguistic description and analysis of a language. Along with Phonology, this course is essential for all linguistics students and language teachers (English or otherwise).

This course deals with the most stereotypical characteristics of British and American Culture. First of all, these two countries will be introduced in general; their history, geography, and population. After that, modern-day British and American culture are dealt with, bearing in mind how they have come to existence. Specific topics discussed are: history, general characteristics of the people and the country, media, religion, education, politics, music, leisure, environment, international perspectives, language issues, and, finally, the most important challenges that these two countries face today. Attention will be paid also to explaining differences between American and British culture and the culture of other countries. Understanding cultural difference is an important aspect of the course.

The art of public speaking helps students improve their knowledge and skills when presenting in front of a group of audience, The course focuses on elements as posture, eye contact, gesture and voice when presenting. In addition, students also proficiently use visual aids and develop effective presentations. The course helps students improve their confidence, language, presentation content and style, and then they would be flexible in different situations while speaking in public.

072490 Translation interpretation - Upper-intermediate [03 credits]

Module 4 provides students with basic knowledge, concepts, and terminology that are widely used in many areas such as Social and Life, Entertainment, Economics, Politics, etc...; as well as an Interpreter's work related to these areas. Theory includes the necessary Interpretation techniques such as how to translate phrases and texts at sentence level or short paragraphs, terms; use advanced sentence structure, multiple text analysis, etc… will be included in class practice. Students are also familiarized with Oral Interpretation situations that are similar to consecutive interpreting and how to deal with difficulties in translation.
 

073711 Research methods [03 credits]

This subject introduces students to a variety of research methods used in a range of fields and provides fundamental knowledge that they need to make rational decisions about research strategies. The subject introduces research methods such as experimental, quasi -experimental, case studies and surveys. Further, it explores ethical constraints, codes of ethics and requirements for gaining ethical approval. A range of research strategies will be introduced through a critical examination of exemplar studies and examining the relationship between r esearch questions and methods of collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data. Students will be given guidance in developing researchable questions, writing research proposals and reports and conducting literature reviews. They will also be i ntroduced to basic statistical analyses of data.

Japanese
Teaching elementary grammatical knowledge including causes – results form, sample, guessing, dictating, ask for permission – allow, ordering, banning sentences. Teaching how to use common sense of verbs, adjectives. Practicing listening and speaking skills in elementary level 5.
 
Korean
With the next 10 lessons of Korean module 5 along with the number of assigned periods in the module, students are taught about: how to deliver long sentences in conversation, show the way to a specific place, write a letter, communicate when shopping, order goods, talk about hobbies, and book flight tickets to travel, etc.
 
Chinese
The module consists of 8 lessons (from lesson 1 to lesson 8) in the crash speaking textbook in Chinese – the foundation book (汉语口语速成-基础篇) by Ma Tien Phi – a chief editor. The main contents of each lesson include new words, text (2 conversations or 1 short text), and main grammar points with exercises to demonstrate.

070445 Translation-interpretation internship [05 credits]

Students will practice at enterprises, and then improve themselves in practical working environment. Students will have the opportunity to observe, practice, evaluate and learn from experience, and cultivate professional skills for lifelong learning purposes.

Japanese
Teaching a section of elementary grammar knowledge including speculation, communication and permission forms. Practicing listening and speaking skills in elementary level 6. Preparing for students with the skills to do the test so that students can participate in the Japanese language proficiency certification exam.
 
Korean
With the next 10 lessons of Korean module 6 along with the number of assigned periods in the module, students are taught about: how to communicate when travelling on taxi and buses, how to talk about ages and describe the characters of friends and family members, activities of Korean culture, how to introduce about sports, describe clothes, and talk about the travel, etc. Lessons in the course book consists of theory and exercises, which allows students to understand, apply in the exercises and practice communication.

070297 Undergraduate Thesis [07 credits]

After completing the program, students with good academic results (total GPA above 7.5) are permitted to conduct their graduation thesis in the form of scientific research and finally participate in thesis defense in front of the Academic Council.

Advanced Translation section provides students with general knowledge, basic concepts, and terminology that are widely used in many fields such as Culture, Journalism, etc. as well as the nature of the work of a Translation related to these areas. Theory includes advanced Interpretive techniques such as handling non-equivalent concepts between two cultures, two languages; use complex sentence structures; How to analyze many different texts, shorthand skills, presentation skills, etc. will be integrated into the pre-prepared classroom and group exercises at home. This module focuses much on the Compilation practice in class with the Advanced Practice of Translation, which closely resembles the actual work such as Story Translation and Journalism, how to deal with those problems and obstacle in translation too.
 

073351 Advanced interpretation [03 credits]

The Advanced Translation Practice module provides students with general knowledge, basic concepts, and terminology that are widely used in many fields such as Culture, Tourism, Society and Life, Live, Entertainment, Economy, Politics etc; as well as the nature of the work of an interpreter related to these areas. Theory includes advanced translation techniques such as handling non-equivalent concepts between two cultures, two languages; use complex sentence structures; How to analyze many different texts, shorthand skills, presentation skills, etc. will be integrated into the pre-prepared classroom and group exercises at home. This module focuses much on the practical part of the Interpretation translation. Oral Interpretation is almost identical to the actual work as chasing (simultaneous interpreting) and simultaneous interpreting, the way handling when encountering obstacles during translation.
 

072530 Intercultural communication [02 credits]

This unit introduces students to the newly developed field of Cultural Linguistics, a multidisciplinary field of research that examines the complex relationship between language and cultural conceptualization. It encourages students to examine how language encodes culturally constructed conceptualization of experience.
